I don’t think there’s anything particularly weird, different or unique in that sense for making the record, it’s one of my main modes. I’ve done a handful of records like this, maybe even half of them, so it’s a very familiar style for me. What was the experience like making this record completely on your own in a DIY fashion? I know you’ve done stuff like this before with the drums and other instruments. You recorded Hello, Hi in your home studio, so was this done during the COVID-19 pandemic back in 2020 or was it more recent? We spoke ahead of both the show and the release about doing the recordings at his home studio, his current backing band, transitioning recorded songs into a live setting, and what he hopes fans take away from Hello, Hi. Segall is going to release his 14th solo album, Hello, Hi via Drag City records on July 22 and a few weeks before that he’s going to hit up Royale in Boston on June 27. Segall will launch a full North American tour at the Bunkhouse Saloon in Las Vegas April 3rd.What makes Segall great is his consistency any sort of music he’s involved in rocks, whether he is strumming an acoustic guitar or bringing the amplification with a full band. His 2018 tour schedule opens January 24th at the Belly Up Tavern in Solana Beach, California, after which he’ll play three shows at the Teragram Ballroom in Los Angeles (January 26th, 27th and 28th) and open for Queen’s of the Stone Age February 1st in San Francisco. Segall has a handful of live dates scheduled for December, including an appearance at the Hipnosis Festival in Mexico City, and four acoustic shows in Los Angeles and San Francisco, which will benefit the LA Kitchen and San Francisco Homeless Coalition, respectively.
